Dr. John P. Jacobi, OD, FCOVD, is the Clinical Director at Suburban Eye Care home of Low Vision of Michigan in Livonia.
After graduating from Northville High School, Dr. Jacobi attended the College of Optometry at Ferris State University in Michigan. He received his doctorate in 1988 and earned his advanced status as a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.
For over 20 years, Dr. Jacobi has diagnosed and treated children and adults with vision related learning problems. Showing particular concern for those with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and autism spectrum disorders, he understands delays in the development of the skills needed to “sort out,” as he calls it, the visual world, and teaches visualization, eye coordination and eye movements.
He is equally adept at treating adults and has expanded his practice to include low vision care. His comprehensive low vision program includes an evaluation and needs assessment, prescribing of customized, task-specific devices, on-going training, and nutritional counseling. Low vision patients, and their families, can expect a more satisfied quality of life.
Dr. Jacobi has been a member of The International Academy of Low Vision Specialists since 2005 and attends semi-annual conferences to discuss and evaluate new treatment options for low vision patients.
